Who doesn’t love free stuff? Holding a giveaway for your book is a great idea and I highly suggest it if you are a new writer. If your book is not in Kindle Unlimited and you have a large social media following I would recommend using Book Funnel to do your giveaway. It’s basically free and it is also a great way to build a mailing list. If you are in Kindle Unlimited or you don’t have a big following yet I suggest Goodreads giveaway. It’s $120 but you are almost guaranteed to get some readers and reviews which is essential when launching a book.
Advance Reader Copies
This is huge! Giving away ARC’s to book reviews and bloggers can be a great way to draw attention to your book. You can tell people all you want how terrific your book is but everyone knows you are the author so you’re a little basis. You want to create a buzz around your book launch and to do that you need to get other people talking about your book. What I did to find people to give my book to is I looked at the book blogger and reviews who were already following me on Instagram and reached out to them to see if they would like a ARC in exchange for a honest review. I was very surprised that nearly all of them said yes.
This is the most basic marketing tactic in my opinion. Social media is essential and I suggest having at least three or so social media platforms. You don’t have to use them all regularly. For example my main platform is Instagram and everything I post to Instagram I also link it to my Facebook page. My twitter account is linked to my blog so every time I post something new on my blog it goes to my twitter. This keeps things up to date without much effort from me. It’s a good idea to plan post ahead of time. Create photos that you can write over to start a countdown for when your book will release. Gain followers and make sure to put links to your social media page at the back of all books.
Friends and Family
Getting your friends and family on board with spreading the word about your new release can do wonders. I know I was very hesitant in the beginning to tell people I was writing a book but once I did I got a overwhelming amount of support. Your friends and family might not go out and buy your book but they will probably like your Facebook page and share your content which will help you get more eyeballs.
I hope these idea’s were helpful. When I’m getting ready to launch a book these are the essential marketing things I do. Let me know in the comments what kind of marketing has worked well for you.
